About
I (nee Shannon Bourne) am one of the few remaining people that were born and raised in Victoria, B.C. My parents, Joan and Pete, had nine children, most of whom live in the Victoria area now, with one in Shawnigan Lake, one in Duncan and one in Ladner. I worked for the Provincial Government at the Ministry of Health for 27 1/2 years, then retired in 2010. Jean (Jeanno) was born in Dolbeau, Q.C. and was transferred to Victoria after his basic training and English course in 1969. This is where we met in 1971. Jeanno had 3 sisters, but only one remains and lives in Montreal now. In 1973, Jeanno was transferred to Chilliwack. We got married in July 1974, then left for the Montreal Olympics in 1976 for a few months where we lived with his uncle. After the games were over, we were posted to Bagotville, Q.C. and stayed there for 5 years. We had our first born, Renae, in May of 1978, then a twin girl and boy in June of 1980; Chantale and Denis. We had our hands full you might say!! In 1981, on our twins birthdays, we left for Cold Lake, AB for a couple years there. In 1983 Jean re-mustered to the Postal Trade, as he had injured his back, so we were posted back to Victoria once again where he worked in Naden and the PPCLI Post Offices. We have been here ever since and couldn't be happier!! I went back to work at the Ministry of Health again until I got my full pension in 2010. Jeanno retired from the Forces in 1990, worked at the U-Vic Mailroom for 5 yrs., then Wheaton GM for a few months, then started his own handyman business called Jeanno's Services and did gutters, landscaping, hauling, etc. He worked part-time for the Victoria Commissionaires doing Photo Radar from 1997-2004. He decided to go to Camosun College to get his Residential Care Attendant Certificate in 2000 and he worked at the Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion until retiring in 2007. Jeanno also worked as a Service Officer at the Langford Legion from 2000-2007, did lots of volunteering for special events in Victoria over the years, and worked as a volunteer for the Commonwealth Games in 1990-1994. He volunteered as Head of Security for Dive Canada one year prior to the games as well. He became a Mason in 1997, a Shriner in 2009, and has been a Victoria Clown Unit member for the past 9 yrs. We now have four beautiful grandchildren. Chantale has Monique (12 yrs.) and Jessica (10 yrs.); Renae and Matt have Jenna (5 yrs.); and Denis and Jill have Nicholas (20 mon.) old. We enjoy babysitting them and are a close knit family. We love them all!! We love to travel, go cruising, have been members of the Chemainus Theatre for many years, and enjoy time with our friends and family. It's a great life!!!
